An introduction to the AI world: Light-activated Curtain

BATU PAHAT: Chinese High School Batu Pahat (CHSBP) officially announced the introduction of a new AI curriculum. Starting from next year, first-year students will embark on an AI learning journey through two thematic courses, “AI Experience Camp” and “Python Basics 1”.

The school recently had a deep conversation and consultation with Zhong Cheng and Li Liang, AI education experts from China “doctorpai”, and officially announced the integration of cutting-edge AI technology into the curriculum of Chinese Independent School, opening the door to the world of technological innovation for students.

Soo Boon Teong, the principal of Chinese High School, said that the school’s AI curriculum planning will build a comprehensive learning journey. Students will start from the first year and gradually advance to Form 5 level. Students who take AI classes will be charged an additional RM 20 every month.

The school will arrange two classes per week for first-year students, each lasting 35 minutes, covering four core categories, including general education, experiential learning, practical application, and design & development courses.

The two thematic courses for first-year students, among them, “AI Experience Camp” will lead students to experience AI technology, let them work on voice recognition, image recognition and other AI products, carry out simple programming activities, get them initiated on AI awareness and enhance their receptivity to AI technology.

The course content also includes basic AI concepts, application areas, related technology workflows, and real-life applications.

Foster Interest in Learning Python

As for “Python Basics 1”, it focuses on the Python programming language as the main teaching content. As Python is more straightforward and easy-to-learn, it has become an important tool for putting AI to use.  The course will focus on the mastery and application of Python basic syntax, stimulating students’ interest in learning Python.

“Students will learn programming basics such as variables, branch structures, loop structures, lists, etc., through experiencing intelligent voice technology, face recognition technology, drowsiness detection program development and other projects, while cultivating interest in programming and AI.”

Attendees of the information exchange meeting includes Gan Thiam Chai, treasurer of the Board of Director of the school; Ng Sing Yian, executive secretary of the board; and teachers Fong Chun Chai, Tong Lung Kit, and Liew Khing Weng.
